30 years experience of different dance styles - Scottish, Highland, Ballet, Ballroom and for the last 10 years Middle Eastern - has provided a strong sense of rhythm and musicality for Troupe Leader Basimah. Initially learning Egyptian rhythms and songs has given her an earthy style with strong hip action. Basmiah has loved classes with Lorne McCall, Keti Sharif, Hossam Ramzy, Serena Ramzy, Mahmoud Reda, Leila Haddad, Mayodi, Beata & Horacio Cifuentes and Claire Naffah.
The Troupe of 7 dancers has a range of choreographies from traditional Egyptian - Baladi and Saiidi through Algerian, Turkish and Modern Middle Eastern/Fusion Pieces. They dance with Single and Double veils, stick (Tahteb) and sword (Raks el Seyf).
My Favourite Egyptian Dancer is Soheir Zaki, she has the sweetest smile and the best hips.
